I found this coat at Value Village for $10.

It was a men's XXL and WAY way too large for me. Even belted, I'm petite and I was swimming in it. So... I decided to alter it. I am NOT a seamstress. I don't sew. I own a sewing machine but I don't know how to use it.

The thought of cutting this awesome jacket terrified me, but I decided to try my hand at a full scale alteration. Using a jacket I owned, I made a template and pinned everthing to place. Making the first cut was hardest, the point of no return. It took me several episodes of the Office on Netflix, but after a few hours I had this AWESOME tunic/jacket that not only FIT but looks super CUTE!

As a dress - belted with leggings (confession-I promised myself that I would never be caught dead in leggings... bah!)

Photobucket

With jeans, still belted. Basically the same outfit as above but with jeans instead of leggings. Definately more my style! With a "vintage" Dooney & Burke that I am "borrowing" from my Mama.

Photobucket

Did I mention I love thrifting?

AND just an FYI for all you thrifters out there... all clothing at Value Village is %50 this Wednesday, Veteran's Day... I'm sure I'll be there.

A Fort Fit for King Max

I've been inspired lately.

Both crafty wise (still no scrapbooking... still jaded) and just in general. Goose and I, okay, I built a fort today. I actually surprised Goose with it. She wasn't really paying attention to me; she was too busy watching "Getchter Gadget" (Inspector Gadget on Netflix.)

Dollar Store Gloves

11/06/2009 01:31:00 PM Posted In , , , Edit This 1 Comment »
So my mom bought some really neat finger-less gloves from Target the other day. I am totally jealous. And I had just been to Target earlier that day. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Meh, I'm sure I'll buy them once they go on sale. Anyway, I wanted a pair. And then the lightbulb went off in my head. I could always try to make a pair.

I found these cool arm-warmer gloves at the Dollar Tree. They are the same as the cheapie knit gloves but they go all the way up your arm and you can kinda scrunch them down. I got a bunch of colors before I even got the idea to try this out just cuz I thought they were super cool.

Photobucket

Taking each glove, I folded the fingers inside themselves and pinned them down, leaving the top open so I could still sew them. Once each finger was sewn, I turned the gloves inside out and snipped the fingertips off.

Photobucket

I made sure each glove matched up and hand-sewed about a quarter inch seam on the inside of each finger. I didn't really know what I was doing re: knit/sewing, I've never really worked with it before. So I have to tuck in my seams and they look a little scrappy. Any tips on finishing them up would be greatly appriciated.

Photobucket

I still think they turned out pretty cool, and they were pretty easy too. I definately dig the fingerless gloves. And the fact that I only spent $1 on them makes it all the better!

I love my online friends.

Especially those who stuck by me during all the madness that went down this summer.  Thank you thank you for being there and understanding and being compassionate wonderful people!

You are each getting a pair of these earrings. They are made of coconut shell and have a dainty solitary black pearl. I made a pair for me so we all match. And every time I wear them, I will think of all of you!

PS - Ms. Froggy, send me an email with your addy! You "won" my little contest the other night and I would like to send you a pair of earrings! Thanks!

Pick of the Patch

I know I said I'd post these like a week ago, but remember the crud Goose caught? Well, she decided to share. Laid me out for like a week. No joke, we got back from the patch at 5 and by 7 I felt like I'd been hit by a truck... pretty much till the next Friday. Sucked. But now the house is healthy and I can post some over due picks.

A Sick Little Goose

My poor little one is sick. She has a fever and sore throat. She's been sleeping up a storm. I just wanna cuddle her and kiss it all better. But as with all things, this too shall pass.

I sure do hope that she gets better soon.  She may be obnoxious when she is feeling better, but I'd take that child any day over this mopey, sad, sick little beebs.

As Seen on TV Thursday

10/21/2009 10:46:00 PM Posted In , , Edit This 0 Comments »
I think I have crossed over from mom who blogs to Mommy Blogger.  I have features on my blog now.  Yes, that was feature"s", as in more than one.  First we have the Wardrobe Re-mix posts, then... new this week... Wild Thing Wednesday (and of course there's always "Wordless Wednesday" or "Friday Favs" for an easy cop out) anyway... I am going to start doing an "As Seen on TV" post on either Tuesday or Thursday.  This week, its Thursday.  Maybe I won't do it next week... maybe it'll be Tuesday. You know me and blogging, I'm still a little commitment-phobe. Not that I don't love you all. really its not you, its me. Hahaha!

Okay, so the plan is to just try out different products and talk about it.  At the current moment I am not paid by anyone, nothing has been sent to me, all this stuff I have bought out of pocket.  But maybe its just me, but I'm kinda a sucker for the "As Seen on TV" shit... stuff on commercials even. Why limit it to infomercials?  That said... if anyone would like to send me products to review, I will happily accept them if you are willing to accept an HONEST review of your product.

PRODUCT REVIEW - BUMPITS
Photobucket

My first choice iss "Bumpits." I gotta admit, I was a bit skeptical. I have pretty fine hair and I can rarely get things like this to work. But I bought it to use with my Halloween costume (I'm going as a HOT Betty Crocker. Cupcake, anyone?) and I also bought this nasty 60's style bouffant wig. The Bumpits couldn't be worse then the wig and for $10 it wasn't a huge loss if they didn't work.

On the way home (Hubs was driving) I read the instructions, they were a little hard to follow; but once I got in front of the mirror I found them really easy to use. Not only that, but they are comfortable. There was one time that I hit my head on the roof of my car... (I wasn't really paying attention to the extra height of the Bumpit)yeah, that kinda hurt a bit.

Photobucket

The medium size works great for every day use, adding some height, but not so over the top you can't wear it to work. I especially like the half-up/down styles, pinned back styles, ponys and headbands. I will probably use the large or even double Bump-it (yeaz, thats right) for Halloween.  These are really versatile and totally worth the $10 I spent. PLUS, now I don't have to wear that nasty wig.

Photobucket Photobucket
*Medium Bumpit, front and side view
Photobucket
*Large Bumpit, hair down with a skinny headband.
My hair will probably be something like this for Halloween.
I'll probably curl it though.

I wore it in a pony the other day and I think I may try it down or pinned back. Either way, this is a really fun product to play around with. I bought mine at Best Buy (of all places) but I'm sure you can find it at Walmart or Target or online someplace.  Maybe if you are lucky, you can find a BOGO deal and share with a friend!

Photobucket

I crafted, thankyouverymuch.

And I even decided to take a little time to put together a little tutorial for y'all.

Step #1
Paint the inside and outer edge of the bracelet. You can paint the whole thing, but I am lazy and it will just get covered.
Photobucket
Photobucket

Step #2
Tear patterned paper (I used vintage sheet music) into small bits and apply with Modge Podge. Apply liberally and coat one additional time after the first coat is dry. I only attached my paper to the part of the bracelet that was not painted, leaving a bit of paint showing on the side.
Photobucket
Photobucket

Step #3
Using silver paint and gold Pearl-Ex (cuz I couldn't find my gold paint) I lightly dry brushed one bracelet with silver along the edges and rough parts. I did the same technique with the Pearl-Ex but mixed it with a bit of clear sealant. Get help from a Goose.
Photobucket

Step #4
Allow to dry. Once gold/silver paint is dry, apply a multi-purpose sealer to the entire bracelet. One-two coats is more than enough. Dry overnight and wear with some fab accessories tomorrow. Give the other to a friend, cuz she'll love it!
Photobucket

Modge Podge will also work as a sealant if thats all you have.  But I find that sometimes it can remain a little tacky, even if "fully dry" so I like to add a multi-purpose sealer (found with the rest of the acrylic paints) on the top.  It adds strength to the bracelet (which you should still try NOT to get wet) and will get rid of any tacky-ness from the MP.

Photobucket

PS - As always, with Modge Podge it is always best to let your project sit and dry overnight! I cannot stress this enough.  The paper will bubble and curl and won't lay flat when its wet.  It just won't, no matter how much you mess with it.  98.9% of the time, after my projects dry overnight, the bubbles and wrinkles have worked themselves out.  And if they don't then you pull out some ribbon or some embellishments and you cover it and make it pretty!!!

Wild Things Wednesday

10/21/2009 11:15:00 AM Posted In , , , Edit This 0 Comments »
It's fall. The colors are so pretty. Apples are ripe off the tree. Gentle cool breezes and biting crisp air. Yes, fall. The time of year where its dark when you leave for work and dark when you get home. Okay, so I don't like that part so much. But everything else about fall I love. The colors, Halloween, driving on sunny days with the windows rolled down and the heat turned to high.

And being fall, its mushroom season in the Northwest. I love mushrooms. Not eating them, no, thats disgusting (unless they are stuffed mushrooms from Olive Garden or Red Lobster, yummy!) but taking pictures of them. I don't know why, but they have this ugly beauty about them. Wabi-sabi, as Bobby Hill would say.
